Shareholder research 2007

In light of the new Companies Bill and the recent u-turn on the OFR, the role of the small shareholder in the world of the PLC and the information they should receive has been much debated.

We have just completed one of the most comprehensive studies of the UK small shareholder. Interviewing 1,000 investors across the country has revealed some startling characteristics, attitudes and needs. Key highlights include:

77% feel “they are entitled to a printed annual report once a year”

38% of UK shareholders are women, 50% are aged between 44 and 64.

31% of shareholders read the annual review/report thoroughly, 71% read the top line.

66% feel that they are provided with the right amount of information.

61% trust the Finance Director to write the annual report, more than the Chairman and CEO.

This information is fundamental to building a communications strategy in a changing world, and a full presentation is available from 35 Communications on request.
